MERRITT OLSEN

After a long search, the San Juan Community Theatre is pleased to welcome our new Executive Director.  Merritt Olsen assumed his duties June 1, 2000.  Merritt recently concluded his contract as Managing/Artistic Director of the Black Hills Community Theatre, Rapid City, S.D.

Merritt's experience seems ready made for our theatre. He brings administrative skills, a knowledge of fundraising, marketing, budgeting, and programming.  He has been a producing director, and an actor.  Merritt has also conducted both acting classes and directors workshops.  Very important to our theatre is his proven ability to work with volunteers and a Board of Trustees.

Prior to their move to San Juan Island, Merritt's wife, Janet, was Director of Bands for the Dakota Middle School, grades 5 through 8.  Her background as a teacher is also an asset to our community.

Merritt Olsen is a graduate of Grinnell College. He received his MFA in Theatre from the University of Iowa.
